Cover a class with a substitute

Give a substitute 48 hours of Torah Live with one link, manage your links, and fix link problems.

Written by Meir

A teacher is out? One link gives your substitute the full Torah Live library, without adding them as a teacher.

Send a substitute link

  1. Go to Sub coverage.

  2. Click Create invitation.

Invite a substitute card with Create invitation highlighted
  3. When you see Invitation ready, click Copy link and send it by text or email.

The link works once, and unused links expire after 7 days. Access starts when your substitute opens it and lasts 48 hours, then runs until midnight. Your school can create 10 invitations in any 30 days. The count shows above Create invitation.

Check, copy, or revoke a link

The table shows every link from the last 30 days. Teachers see their own, and the school admin sees the whole school's.

Invitations table with the Status column highlighted

  • Unused: nobody opened it yet. Click Copy link to send it again.

  • Active: your substitute is using it now.

  • Expired: the access ended, or the link went 7 days unused.

  • Revoked: you ended it early.

To end access early, click Revoke, then Revoke again. Removing a teacher also cancels their unused links and ends their active ones.

For the substitute

  1. Open the link the school sent you.

  2. Have a Torah Live account? Click Log in. New here? Enter your email and click Sign up now. It's free.

Substitute sign up page with the email field highlighted
  3. "You're in" shows the date your access ends. Click Browse courses and teach the lesson the teacher planned.

Seeing "This link can't be used"? Here's why:

  • "This invitation was already used, has expired, or was revoked": ask the school for a new link.

  • "Your account has a Family plan" or "can't be added to a student or family member account": log out and sign in with your own account.

  • "Couldn't open this invitation": click Try again.

  • "Your school has used all its invitations for the last 30 days": each one frees up 30 days after it was made. Need more now? Click Contact support on the Sub coverage page.
